For the Toyota brand, few nameplates are as iconic as the Land Cruiser. Known for its boxy design and often nicknamed the Toyota Jeep, the off-roading, full-sized SUV is the automaker’s longest-running series model to date. And now, after a 35-year hiatus, Toyota is re-introducing the legendary Land Cruiser as a part of its 2024 lineup. Keep reading for a first look at the vehicle’s long-awaited comeback for the upcoming model season.

Where Did the Land Cruiser Leave Off?

Since its debut in North America back in 1958, the Land Cruiser has undergone a series of transformations. It has progressed from the iconic two-door models such as the 40 Series, known for its retractable front windshield, distinctive white roof, and rear jump seats, to the durable and robust 60 Series. The 60 Series, which was the final generation available in Canada until 1989, blended the Land Cruiser's legendary durability with upscale luxury features. In the USA, the Land Cruiser 200 Series remained available until 2020.

Staying True to its Heritage

It’s true that legends never die. But are they capable enough to keep up with the times? The all-new Land Cruiser’s revival has already proved it can. With an elegant, sophisticated design that stays true to its heritage as a durable off-roader, this new generation of the full-sized SUV is more rugged than ever before, with a sprinkle of modern comforts. Each 2024 Land Cruiser is exclusively available with the range-topping i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain, producing 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque and features all the off-road capabilities present in the current generation of Toyota trucks – that’s a heck of a lot of Braun for what was once a vintage station wagon!

"The off-road champ is back, baby. It shares a platform with the recently redesigned Lexus GX and wears a similarly boxy look, but the Cruiser is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid powertrain making 326 horsepower. Inside, the Land Cruiser offers seating for five across two rows and offers the requisite infotainment technology to keep modern buyers happy. Toyota even equips it with advanced driver-assistance features since, for most Land Cruiser owners, this truck will serve as both a weekend toy and a weekday commuter. When it's time to hit the trail, the Land Cruiser has the equipment to tackle the rough stuff, including a four-wheel drive system with low-range gearing and a locking differential." - Car and Driver

An Off-Road Icon

For decades, Land Cruiser has been known for its world-renowned capability as the staple of Toyota’s core values of quality, dependability, and reliability, not to mention its off-roading prowess. And this new generation plans to carry on the legacy. Enhancements to conquer the road less travelled include an all-new standard front stabilizer, ground clearance of up to 221mm, standard front tow/recovery hooks, and the industry-leading Multi-Terrain Select, among others.

Land Cruiser Connected

The 2024 Land Cruiser’s interior is really where the modern refinements shine. Enjoy heated and ventilated SofTex-trimmed seating for up to five passengers and an 8.0-inch touchscreen displaying Toyota’s latest Multimedia system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. The new multimedia system also gives drivers the opportunity to access a wide range of enhanced connectivity and convenience features, thanks to Toyota Connected Services. For true Cruiser enthusiasts, the new generation will also include a limited First Edition, complete with leather-trimmed seats and a “First Edition” logo embossed on the door panels.
