Combine unprecedented fuel economy and low emissions with core family-centric values such as safety and reliability, and you get what makes Toyota hybrids so exceptional. As a leader and innovator in hybrid technology, Toyota’s modern, affordable and fuel-efficient vehicles are beloved all over BC – heck, all over North America even. Now, in 2023, there are more alternative-fuel automobiles than one could fathom in every classification, from hatchbacks and sedans to pickups and adventure-ready SUVs. Not to mention, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) currently qualify for the federal government’s iZEV program, which offers an incentive of up to $5,000 for purchasing a zero-emission vehicle. Let’s explore the types of Toyota hybrids available and the 2023 lineup that eco-conscious Castlegar drivers are getting excited about!

Hybrid Electric Vehicles

HEVs seamlessly combine a gas engine with electric motors, automatically choosing the optimal source and blend of power. Because the hybrid battery recharges on the go through regenerative braking, you never need to plug them in like PHEVs (see below) or standard electric vehicles. Get into the all-new 2023 Prius, the vehicle that started it all for a full redesign and lots of sleek, exciting features to reliably accompany you on your daily commute. Both the Camry and Venza hybrids are excellent sedans that offer a fuel-efficient ride plus a luxury, sophisticated interior. The RAV4 and Highlander hybrids are well-equipped for long road trips across BC, while the Sequoia is perfect for families with 8-passenger seating. Eco-conscious soccer moms and truck lovers alike can now also drive sustainably thanks to the Sienna and Tundra hybrids.

Plug-in Hybrid Evs (PHEV)

With two sources of power, a Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) gives you all the benefits of a hybrid electric vehicle plus an extended CO2 emissions-free electric-only driving range. Just like a hybrid electric vehicle, a Toyota plug-in hybrid (PHEV) has both a gas engine and electric motors, automatically switching between electric mode (EV), gas mode, or a seamless combination of both. You can also choose to plug in to extend your electric-only driving range. Charging your PHEV is easy too! Just plug it in at home, at work, or at any public charging station currently available across BC. Choose from two powerful and proven Toyota plug-in hybrids, including Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime, both of which include exceptional power, a sleek design, and modern tech and safety features.

Honourable Mention: Battery Electric

In place of an internal combustion engine, BEVs are powered by a large battery pack and high-output electric motors, emitting no exhaust from the tailpipe. BEV batteries are recharged to some degree as you drive but must be plugged into a wall outlet or charging equipment to achieve a full charge in order to deliver the full benefits of their electric-only operation. This year, Toyota introduced its first-ever all-battery-electric vehicle, the bZ4x. Loaded with some of our most innovative thinking and advanced technology, Toyota bZ4X is a zero-emissions vehicle that delivers an exhilarating drive along with all the capability you’d expect in an all-electric SUV.
